I feel really gross about coming back off of a hiatus due to my Mother-in-Law’s fall/death to post about the Amazon Prime Day deals but yet, here I am. Mary loved a good sale though so I think she definitely would endorse letting others know what deals are decent that I’ve found. I did this back in November for Black Friday so I thought I’d pop in with another edition for the sales for July.
If sales aren’t your thing, that’s fine! I have an update coming on Larry soon! It’s nice to be back to ‘normal’ even if obviously the new normal is a bit different than the old.
The links will be affiliate just to put that out there. I don’t like it when people are sneaky about it.
Anyway, here is a round up of a few things that I use and love or have been eying for the Prime Day sales!
SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD - I have the 1TB version and have been using it for years. It’s what I take with me when I have sessions out of town to back up to from my laptop and to edit from so when I get home I can keep editing on the desktop by moving this to my Mac Studio. While this isn’t the lowest price ever ($239 in 11/2023 per Camel Camel Camel) it is the lowest it’s been in a while. If you’re needing a new portable SSD this isn’t a bad time to buy if you can’t wait until the fall when they generally go on sale for cheaper.
SanDisk 128GB ExtremePRO SD Memory Card 200 MB/S $18.99 - Generally this hangs out just at a dollar more with the historic low being back in 2022 so if you’re needing to refresh some memory cards now is a good time to buy. This is my workhorse SD card, I can fit an entire session on it and it’s fast enough to keep up without buffering issues and cheap enough that if it gets damaged it doesn’t sting to throw away. I generally keep a pile of these on hand so I keep a session on it until edited/delivered. HOWEVER if you’re looking for an even better deal with less chance of fakes NewEgg has the same cards for $11.99. It appears they are final sale so I’m wondering if this style is being phased out?
SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO SD Memory Card 300 MB/S $179.99 - If you prefer more memory due to your camera’s file sizes, this is, per CCC, the lowest price for these cards ever.
Lexar 512GB Silver SE CF Express Memory Card $118.99 - It doesn’t appear that any proper XQD cards are on sale but most cameras now can do CF Express OR XQD and if you are in need luckily there’s a good deal on this Lexar one that’s just a dollar above it’s historic low price per CCC. It normally sits around $135 so not a SUPER sweet deal but still pretty awesome.
NEEWER Z1 Flash for Canon $135.99 or Nikon $123.49 - I have this flash for Nikon and I LOVE it. It’s a historically low price for both versions.
NEEWER Q300 300Ws 2.4G Outdoor Studio Flash $188.99 - I have this sucker and have been LOVING it for when I do indoor work and for wedding portrait formals. It’s pretty portable for what it is and is at a historic low price.
Apple Watch Series 10 GPS $309.99 or GPS and Cellular $409.99 - I don’t have this *yet* but I’ve been eying it as my old Series 4 is about to give up the ghost. When I first got an Apple Watch I didn’t think it’d really be that useful but this is one of my favorite not-camera-related items and when I forget it on a rare day I’m SO lost without it. I have my face set up for sunrise and sunset which I use SO MUCH during the day, when I see I get a text from my second I can read it immediately etc. They were about $10 cheaper (historic low) at the end of May but still a great deal compared to non-sale prices.
Apple iPad Air 11 Inch 128GB WiFi $479 or Cellular $629 - One thing I personally haven’t integrated into my work life is the iPad but so many use these for showing galleries at meetings or even editing during wedding receptions that I felt I should include it. Alas, I just use mine to stream movies and show recipes on while cooking.
EARPEACE Music PRO Earplugs $31.96 - Yeah that is a curveball but stick with me. I’m getting old. I’ve always been sensitive about loud music and receptions are often the worst for me, especially when DJ DumbFuck thinks loudness = talent. I tried the popular Loop Earplugs in all varieties but it didn’t help. These suckers though? MAGIC. You don’t have to take them out to have a conversation most times, they are comfortable, invisible and they WORK. No more mind numbing headaches on the drive home! While these aren’t a screaming deal (I paid a few dollars more 3 years ago) they are one of my most used kit items.
Daily Pill Organizer $9.99 - Another curveball but when it comes to my wedding day kit, this sucker is one of the most often used! I paid $2 more for it so, again, not a screaming deal but this sucker is so efficient for storing my most-used items on a wedding day: foldable scissors (these often get taken by accident so I recommend the 4 pack), bobby pins in all hair colors (fix the flyaways so you don’t have to edit them later), boutonniere pins, kilt pins (for broken bustles), various sized safety pins (broken everything) and white chalk. I keep this thing in the bag I have closest to me and it’s rare I don’t need at least one thing from this bag during a wedding day. I have a more extensive oh shit kit in my car (that I’m happy to talk about if there’s interest) but this mini oh shit kit has saved many clients (and myself). I have a different pill organizer I also keep in my bag with actual pills (the usual Tylenol, ibuprofen, Immodium, Excedrin, Benadryl, Pepcid (fun fact I learned from my allergist - Pepcid often gets rid of hives! it works better on mine than Benadryl!), and others of the same sort. I’ve been eying this one after seeing it on TikTok used for snacks. It’d be a great way to keep snacks at hand and able to pour down some trail mix in my gob while driving like a madwoman after the limo bus.
Amazon Kindle Basic $84.99 or Paperwhite $124.99 or Signature Edition $149.99 or Colorsoft $179.99 - The best thing for my creativity and happiness is reading. I’ve read every night before bed even before I could read the words. It is key to my well being and I think it helps everyone unwind! They were cheaper for Black Friday save for the Colorsoft but if you’re needing an upgrade or want to dive into reading more, I highly recommend a Kindle (especially tied with a library card! I’ve saved almost $1K since I began using Libby in 2023). I personally have owned all of this fleet BUT the regular Paperwhite. I started with the Colorsoft when it was released paying full price for it but ultimately returned it due to the yellowing and grain/lack of sharpness and used that money plus an old trade in to get the Kindle Basic (which lives in my purse and I LOVE it) and Signature which is my daily reader. I hadn’t upgraded in a while and I was due. They are also running a 20% off with trade in which is a great deal, especially if you have an old model that isn’t working well and you can’t resell (if you have the Oasis sell it vs trading in, those are going for a lot of money bc people love the buttons).
Are there any deals you are eying? Anything you’re looking for?
Anyone know of a good monitor deal? I’ve been meaning to get two to finally move on up to the dual screen life but am clueless on what to buy so I’d appreciate any advise.
