I wanted to dig into Jasmine last week but I felt because her and Doug’s “fall” from grace (quotes because, did they really fall?) are intertwined a bit since they both happened in 2013. Since I try to do things chronologically when I can, Doug was first!
So, now, Jasmine.
A wee bit of a back story on Jasmine if you don’t know who she is/was: Jasmine was the industry darling from around 2008-2013. Jasmine’s story was that she wanted to be a wedding photographer after her own wedding so much she dropped out of law school. David Jay, who was her wedding photographer, allegedly gave her a boost into the industry bringing her along as his second and convincing his friends to also have her along and the rest is history. Jasmine did a lot of platform classes, workshops and so forth and always had sell out crowds.
Basically, at the time of my original post, Jasmine was a BIG DEAL. So, keep that in your hat as you read all of this to get a grasp of how much of an “oh fuck fuck fuck” this was for me.
In August of 2013 it was brought to my attention that Jasmine had a lot of quippy tweets that were not her original thoughts. While most of the industry was like, "nah, NBD” some of us were like, hold the phone. Because one of Jasmine’s BIG components to her teachings in her workshops and classes was basically that you’re not selling your photographs, you’re selling YOU and to sell YOU you need to be your most authentic self everywhere from no only how you present yourself online but how you answer the phone, how you look when you show up to a meeting/wedding and so forth.
So for the Queen of BE YOU to have tweets that were not HER… it was a bit of a trip. Especially since many of the replies to these were about how she’s so relatable etc.
Instead of a blog post, I made a post to the Photo Stealers Facebook Page because ultimately I decided it wasn’t worth a blog post but it still needed to be brought to attention.
The talk about it died down pretty quickly and most fluffed it off as NBD and not nearly as bad as what Doug did so not worth the buzz. However I was really annoyed and pissed that people didn’t think this was a thing to really be concerned about.
Well when there’s smoke, there’s fire.
