Apparently anything can inspire a styled shoot
Thank you, again, for your patience while I dealt with my Mother-in-Law’s fall and death last month/early this month.
This was going to be a normal newsletter but I felt weird adding the other topics in with the main WTF of this newsletter so that will be coming tomorrow.
There is a trigger warning for this newsletter for (stylized photos of) children dying. Never thought I’d be writing that sentence, that’s for sure.
I don’t even know where to begin with this one but there’s a photographer who thought it’d be a great idea to photograph a stylized session of her “vision” of the tragic deaths at Camp Mystic.
Yeah, you read that right.
I’m posting a screen recording of the TikTok that was posted. I’m not posting any stills to keep it off the internet as much as possible but I also think this needs to be seen to be understood the level of WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK is happening here.
Of course there was pushback but Brandie won’t apologize! While she claims it wasn’t done for attention, allegedly after the first video was deleted from TikTok she reposted it again. It’s unclear if/when she shared on other social media since I got tipped off just this morning regarding this mess.
People kept pushing back because, again, WTF, and Brandie with Bee Photography kept doubling down by justifying the photo session AND posting a photo alongside it. Note, by this point many, many, many people, some who lost loved ones in the floods, begged her to stop posting the images/begged her to take them down because they were hurtful to see. Brandie ignored their pleas.
Eventually the photos were FINALLY deleted and she posted a mostly ChatGPT-like apology to Facebook. The comments that are left (allegedly many were deleted) are pretty harsh. While I could be wrong, in my opinion, Brandie was hoping to go viral, despite her claiming it was done to “honor” the lost. The comments have been turned off now. Can’t imagine why.
This is all gross.
Do not use national tragedies, especially ones where loved ones are still missing, as an inspiration for your latest styled shoot.
WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE SAID.
I can’t help but wonder if 9/11 happened today if some idiot photographer would be photoshopping children to look like they are falling out of a building. I’m sure with a few assets they could later sell so you too can produce your own similar images.
