I started to compile this newsletter yesterday but then the whole gross mess of Bee Photography just made it extra weird to have other stuff in with that topic so I posted that and kept working on the regular newsletter.
I’m still WTFing about that.
Sorry in advance for the shorter newsletter - I’m still slowly getting back to normal day life!
Photo Stealer Blog Updates
No new posts since I was mostly offline.
For those that have been listed I have two small updates:
SJC Photography is still up to her shit. Stephanie booked a session in Florida (remember her home base is in Indiana) when she wasn’t going to BE in Florida. She demanded final payment from the client, got the full payment and then was like oops, can’t do it and BTW I don’t have your money either so I can’t refund you.
After another past client raised a bit of hell her husband claims he’s going to help her get things sorted (may have been after he flashed a ton of cash in a video and people were like, WTF) and then was asking her not take any more sessions until she has everyone refunded. We shall see.
Somehow I have a feeling this won’t be the last time I have an update like this or SJC Photography aka Framed by SJC. I think she’s going to join the list of photographers that continuously pop in my inbox.
Speaking of photographers that I constantly get updates about, remember Whitney Slusser Photography? She now goes by The Wandering Orchid but she still hasn’t cleaned up her act.
A client booked Whitney after seeing this ad in March for their birth in June.
Whitney claimed there was a family emergency so she couldn’t document the birth but promised a Fresh 48 session AND a refund for the error. Neither happened. The client thankfully ended up being able to get refunded through PayPal after almost a month of waiting for the refund Whitney claimed to have sent to ‘process.’
In other “frequent flyer” type listings, Larry has a bunch of hearings coming up for the case he’s in jail for. He’s trying to get a mental health diversion (basically to get treatment in lieu of jail time), the next hearing is 7/21.
While I think Larry definitely needs some mental health treatment and he (and everyone he encounters) may be better off for him getting treatment, I really worry that if they let him out he’ll just abandon his treatments and go back to his usual chaos.
Larry has at least 5 women he’s attacked on record to the point of getting a restraining order from or arrested (or both), and the current charge is the third family member or friend to be attacked that’s attached to the women he’s entangled with. I don’t think treatment is going to stop these behaviors (and I personally believe he wouldn’t keep up with the treatment/medication once released).
I have a big update to do with Larry and the appeal stuff but that has to wait until I’m back in the office after all of my sessions this weekend.
Copyright Corner
It’s been a while since I’ve had anything to post here but this post over at Plagiarism Today caught my eye: Architect Sues Pinterest Over Scraping.
The gist of the article is that an architect company is suing Pinterest for scraping images from their website and rehosting it on their platform allowing users to pin the images.
It’s a fascinating lawsuit from a copyright perspective because Pinterest is hosting the images. However, the firm didn’t DMCA the images or take any steps to prevent the Pinterest bot from scraping the images. They just went to the lawsuit. I see both sides here so it will be interesting to see how this all lands in court.
Head over the article to get all the details!
In my OWN copyright drama, The Talented Photographer DMCA’d all the images from the post I made about them - including the stock AI images they do not have the legal copyright claims to. I submitted my counter notice and the photographer in question was calling me non-stop while I was in the hospital with my dying Mother-in-Law so I had to block him. We will see what happens from here!
Thanks for reading and again, for your patience!
Anyone else think 'Framed by SJC' sounds like title for made for tv movie about someone getting framed for a crime they didn't commit?
